My Story
Hi, I'm Maria.
A naturally curious human who is not afraid to ask questions and loves to share information.
I have been practicing massage for over twenty-five years and have been focusing on pelvic & abdominal health for the last thirteen.
In 2020 I started weaving homebirth midwifery into my life by attending an online school and apprenticing with a local midwife. Birthwork and bodywork blend together naturally - some of the bodywork techniques I have learned were passed down by midwives.
As many things do, my interest in pelvic health started with my own pelvic issues. Then I started sharing what worked for me with family and friends, which led me to integrate this information into my bodywork practice and then my midwifery practice. I see clients in my home-studio in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Interest in abdominal work came about after my eldest daughter was born with gastroschisis and I wanted to help her body heal and grow in the way I knew best - bodywork.
We had been planning a homebirth with the above mentioned daughter until our homebirth midwife saw signs that something else was going on - so we had an ultrasound and found the gastroschisis then switched to a hospital birth. Homebirth midwives are trained to see ‘normal’ so when things deviate further investigation is done. I had my desired homebirth with our second child.
I most enjoy working with clients who are willing participants in their process: I’m here to help guide, nudge and cheer you on.
It is a blessing to be allowed into peoples’ lives and stories. I am constantly in awe at how resilient, unique and beautiful people are. If you choose to work with me, I will honor your uniqueness, present information & resources and respect your choices. You know yourself best.
A few random things: One of my favorite times of year is wild ricing with my husband. Both of our daughters’ names mean peace …. which was not done on purpose. I am currently at the tail end of my midwifery apprenticeship in a phase called: Primary Midwife Under Supervision.
My family: Ted, Olive and Paloma
